Wow themes

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

In March 2007 I interviewed 89 people. People who name a wow theme other than money earn an average of 1/3rd more than people who are excited most by money.

Whether doing what you love makes you more money, or making more money lets you do what you love, the result is clear: Want to act as if you have more money? Do more of what you love.

So, ask yourself now, and write it down MadLibs-style:

Something in life that makes me go wow is: ___________________________________.

In one or two words, what’s important to me about that is: ________________.

How important is this wow theme throughout all areas of my life, on a scale of 1-100, 100 being the most? ___

If your rating is over 90, your wow theme is probably also a strength of yours.

Ask yourself: Something else that excites me as a theme throughout my life that I’m also great at is: ___________.

In other words, what have you been told is a strength of yours, and it also excites you?

The fact is, strong wow themes throughout our lives are usually also our strengths.

* * *

Kim has a wow theme of “family.”

Megan’s wow theme is “unusual things.”

Sam’s wow theme is “kindness.”

Kim does best and gets the most done when she’s with her family or doing things for her family. Megan lights up and is full of energy when something unusual happens around her. Sam is happiest when people are kind. He’s great at seeking and recognizing kindness.

Everyone has wow themes. And everyone is great at something.

Ask your friends if you want to be reminded what you’re great at.
